An uphill journey, this,
of growth and change,
and the attempt to live
something more than
an accidental life!
Fledgling rock climbers all,
we scale slick surfaces,
fingers and toes
hesitantly tracing
the faint roadmap of cracks
in the smooth rock face –
scared,
exhilarated,
red rose clenched
defiantly
in our teeth –
slowly, oh so slowly,
inching our way upward.
